c21 Take Expecting to Edinburgh Fringe
c21 is delighted to announce that they will take their critically acclaimed Expecting by Charis McRoberts to the 2023 Edinburgh Deaf Festival which is part of Fringe. The company produced the hit show, which sees d/Deaf and hearing artists performing in the same space together, in May 2023 at The MAC Belfast before a Northern Ireland wide tour. c21 was then invited to take the show to the famous Scottish festival in August 2023.
Creative Director Stephen Kelly explained how it all happened:
“c21 co-founded the Deaf Arts Festival NI in May 2023. This was a first for the company and to get the chance to work with deaf artists and play to a deaf audience was a challenging but an incredibly rewarding experience. I managed to learn BSL level 1 which meant I could communicate on a basic level with our deaf artist in the rehearsal room. To then get an opportunity to go international and play at Edinburgh has been amazing. This integrated and accessible theatre is so important and let’s hope that more of this work continues”
c21 d/Deaf actor Paula Clarke, hearing actor Eoghan Lamb and interpreter Kristina Lavery will perform Expecting in Deaf Action, Blackwood Bar, Edinburgh from 17-20th August. See the link for tickets:
