'REAP'
(Rural Engagement Arts Programme) Project

A 12-week creative programme exploring creativity through song, drama, objects, visual arts and creative writing

Success at Edinburgh Fringe
for 'Expecting'

The performance was a first for a Northern Irish company to take this kind of
accessible theatre to the newly established Edinburgh Deaf Festival

Early Career Playwright and
Director Bursary Scheme.

The process will culminate in a public showcase of two newly written plays in April 2024.

The successful creatives, all from the local borough, are Writers, Johanna Gallagher and Colm McCready, and Directors, Seón Simpson and Daryl Blair.

The programme kicked off on Saturday 16th December at Theatre of the Mill with a meeting of the full team, followed by an intensive writer toolbox weekend.

REAP Programme

We were delighted to receive funding from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s REAP (Rural Engagement Arts Programme) Project. c21 are facilitating a 12-week creative programme on Tuesday mornings at The Old Church Centre for a 10:30 to 1pm.

The classes will explore creativity through song, drama, objects, visual arts and creative writing, as tools to reveal unique stories attached to the beautiful coastline. A final creative showcase will be presented as a part of the Big Arts Weekend in May 2024, to celebrate, capture and creatively retell the inimitable oral histories connected to this remarkable landscape.

Expecting at the 2023 Edinburgh Deaf Festival

The company had initially performed to a preview audience of Expecting in the Black Box theatre, Belfast before its transfer to the Scottish capital. The show went on to receive excellent reviews:
